Nevada Music in Portsmouth, Hampshire was established in 1969 by Electronics Engineer Mike Devereux with Jenny Devereux joining the company in 1974. They quickly grew and within a few years began installing large sound systems as well as supplying live sound reinforcement to major touring artists. In 1975 the company expanded into Musical instruments and began selling their first guitars. Later a recording studio, independent record company and music publishing company (co-publishing with Warner Brothers Music) were formed to satisfy the local musicians using the music shop. Nevada moved to it’s current American style warehouse store in 2004 and has since become one of the largest independent music retailers in the UK.

Even after 40 years in business, Nevada believes in staying ahead of technology. They have invested hundreds of thousands into a new website that launched in 2007 and use new media to keep in touch with customers via social networking sites like Twitter and providing video product demonstrations on YouTube. In addition, they have written their own software "Price Agent" for competitor pricing and "Boomerang" an on-line customer returns facility - enabling customers to arrange their own returns or repairs with full tracking capabilities.

Always involved in the local community, Nevada Music has won multiple awards for their innovation in encouraging children to take up music and in 2009 the store won the first Rob Williams "Business Enterprise 2009" Award from the Music Industries Association.
